"Goat Lake" | Sawtooth National Recreation Area | Idaho
The hike to Goat Lake was, hands down, my favorite hike in the Sawtooths on this trip. The hike offers a little challenge and gorgeous scenery along the way. You get some amazing views of the Sawtooth peaks, and waterfalls cascading down mountain sides as you gain elevation. You'll also get up close and personal with Goat Falls just before the final push up to the lake. After Goat Falls, the trail continues in a steep ascent that ends at a boulder field. Traverse the boulder field and suddenly beautiful Goat Lake appears. Chances are good, you'll have it all to yourself. On this beautiful afternoon, I was enchanted to find it still partially ice covered. I would have loved to stay awhile, but it was getting late in the day and some serious thunderstorms were quickly approaching. Time to start making my way back across the boulder field.
