After our time in Banff, Kootenay and Yoho, it was time to move further north to Jasper National Park. One evening, near sunset, I ventured to Pyramid Lake.  It had been a very stormy day so I wasn't sure I'd get any sunset light at all. Fortunately, a few of the heavy clouds opened up over the mountain letting some of the setting sun through.  It lit up the still waters of the lake beautifully.

Early one morning I stopped to see the Upper Athabasca River thunder down into the canyon at Athabasca Falls. The falls is so powerful it throws off an unbelievable amount of mist making it a challenge to photograph.

The hot springs are a definite "don't miss" in the Canadian Rockies. Banff, Radium and Miette all have fantastic hot springs that feel amazing after a few days on the trail. After a nice soak in the hot springs in Miette one afternoon, we encountered a few elk grazing as we headed back to camp.

The hike to or around the Valley of the Five Lakes is one of the more popular hikes in Jasper.  Although you're bound to see quite a few other people on the trail, the beauty of these lakes is more than worth it.

On my final day in Jasper, I headed to Lake Annette at sunrise.  Heavy clouds once again prevented any dramatic sunrises, but as I neared the end of my hike around the lake, it started to rain at the same time a break in the clouds let a little morning sun through.  A rainbow formed over the mountains.  The perfect way to end my time in the Canadian Rockies.
