Marble Canyon | Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada
We knew that during our time in Banff National Park, we also wanted to venture to neighboring parks Yoho and Kootenay.
A cloudy or rainy day makes a perfect day to photograph waterfalls and narrow canyons, and this particular rainy day seemed just the right time to venture to Kootenay National Park to enjoy Marble Canyon. The walls of this canyon are beautiful, with layers of white and grey marble coursing through limestone. The turquoise waters of Tokumm Creek rush through the narrow walls in their effort to meet up with the Vermilion River. An easy, short hike with 9 bridges that criss-cross the canyon, let's you explore this unique place.
Takakkaw Falls | Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada
Another day's adventure had us once again leaving Alberta and crossing into British Columbia, this time to visit Yoho National Park and stunning Takakkaw Falls. Falling a total of 1,260 ft., including 830 ft. in a single drop, they are one of the highest falls in Canada. Some gorgeous hiking trails begin in this area as well.
Emerald Lake | Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada
Emerald Lake is another of Yoho's treasures. We were enjoying a very pleasant hike around Emerald Lake when suddenly the winds that had been blowing all day suddenly subsided and for a few brief moments the lake became mirror still. We stood in amazement looking at the crystal clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains and listened as a loon called out. After only a few moments of stillness, the wind once again resumed and choppy waves again picked up on the lake. The moment had passed, and so we once again resumed our trek around the lake.
Next up...Jasper National Park.
