A carpet of wildflowers greeted us when we arrived in the Mt. Baker area.  We enjoyed a lot of great hiking in the area and some freshing (ok, FREEZING!) swims in small, crystal clear lakes where small icebergs still floated by on occasion.

One memorable evening, we started up the trail to a high point that would give us 360 degree views of the sunset.  The trail was steep, the mosquitoes relentless and much of the trail was still either snow covered or had turned to a muddy stream due to snow melt, but the amazing sunset we experienced was more than worth the effort.

From our vantage point we could see Mt. Shuksan, Mt. Baker and the setting sun to the west.  A storm was brewing behind Shuksan, adding even more drama to the last rays of sunlight that turned its flanks beautiful shades of pink and purple.

To the west, the sun slowly sank below the distant mountains as the cloud cover above us was reflected in a small tarn.

And last, but not least, we stayed for the moonrise over Mt. Baker as the last light of the day slowly faded away. As darkness settled in, we dug out the flashlights and quickly started back down the trail.
